Alleged Scientology connections of Linkin Park’s new singer give cause for concern

Amidst all the excitement surrounding Linkin Park’s new lineup and album announcement, Linkin Park fans have now also expressed concern about the band’s new lead singer, Emily Armstrong, who allegedly has a past with the Church of Scientology and Danny Masterson in particular.

These alleged claims were brought to light by fans who came across a previous comment made by The Mars Volta and former At The Drive-In singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala. According to NME, the comments come from a screenshot Zavala posted to his Instagram story in 2023. Zavala tagged Emily Armstrong’s band Dead Sara and wrote the following.

“I’m surprised none of you have written a letter on behalf of Danny Masterson since your stupid singer showed up at the primaries to support him. Remember Emily? Remember how your Scientologist thugs surrounded one of the unknowns as she tried to exit the elevators? The bailiffs had to escort her away from your horrible cult.”

“Remember when we did the cleanse, Emily? Were you instructed to take me to a safe place because my wife knew? Why can’t you keep your mouth shut during a detox program where people are going through rough times but your stupid ass is singing like an unsupervised child?”

“Is it the case that you are born a Scientologist and get a free pass? How do you reconcile the homophobia found in the teachings of LRH’s (L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology) book? Dianetics? Do your fans know about your friend Danny Masterson? Your friend the rapist?”

Zavala’s alleged claims allegedly indicate that Emily Armstrong was present at Danny Masterson’s recent trial in May 2023, where Masterson was found guilty on two of three rape charges and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.

Zavala’s wife, Chrissie Carnell-Bixler, was among several women who accused Masterson of sexual assault. However, Masterson was not convicted of the charges related to their allegations. Both Zavala and his wife, Chrissie Carnell-Bixler, are former members of the Church of Scientology, and Zavala has been outspoken against the Church since leaving. In the picture above, mentioned in a Scientology Newsroom article, Emily Armstrong and Cedric Bixler-Zavala are seen together at the 44th Gala hosted by the Church of Scientology in 2013.

Forbes has contacted representatives of Linkin Park and The Mars Volta for comment.
