AMSTERDAM – Outdoor leisure retailer Alpin Haus has acquired the High Adventure Ski Shop on Route 7 in Latham.

In addition to the newly acquired business, Alpin Haus will continue to operate its other locations in Amsterdam, Clifton Park and Wilton.

The takeover of the traditional alpine ski business took place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Heck family, who founded the Alpin Haus company.

High Adventure has been owned and operated by Diana and Darrell Karl for 31 years. According to a statement from Alpin Haus, the Karls and their staff plan to stay at the 1054 Troy-Schenectady Road (Route 7) location to continue operations.

“For the past three decades, we have had the honor of providing ski retail to Latham and the surrounding communities,” the Karls said in a statement. “As we now begin to look at our future and retirement plans, we are excited to announce that High Adventure will now be part of the Alpin Haus family.”

Alpin Haus was opened by the Heck family in 1964 with a flagship store in Amsterdam. A major expansion was recently completed at that location, and the acquisition of the new, centrally located Latham location will complement the other stores, the press release said.

Alpin Haus President Andy Heck and the Karls are looking forward to future collaboration on this new project.

“Alpin Haus was founded by my father in 1964 and we are proud to carry on his vision as a family business as we expand our services to Latham through the acquisition of High Adventure Ski Shop. We are excited to make High Adventure Ski Shop a part of the Alpin Haus family,” Heck said in a statement.

“Our shared philosophy and passion for skiing make this move a great opportunity for everyone involved. Our existing and future customers alike will benefit from extensive inventory, cutting-edge technology and an impeccable customer service team. We look forward to a seamless transition,” added Heck.

“The Heck family shares the same values and commitment to their employees and customers as we do,” the Karls said in a statement. “We look forward to becoming part of their team.”
