Amazon.com Inc. has announced that it will hold Prime Big Deal Days – the fall equivalent of the Prime Day sales event – in October 2024.
Although Amazon has not yet announced dates for the event, the retailer said its Prime Big Deal Days will return in October “to kick off the holiday season.” Only Prime members will have access to early holiday deals across popular categories and brands, it added. The retailer is hosting the Prime Big Deal Days sales event in 19 countries, fewer countries than during its Prime Day sales event in the summer.
Amazon is ranked No. 1 in the Top 1000 database, which ranks the largest North American online retailers by Digital Commerce 360. Amazon is also ranked No. 3 in the Global Online Marketplaces database, which lists the 100 largest global marketplaces.
Results of the recent Amazon Prime Day event
Last Amazon confirmed in April that it would hold another Prime Day sale in July 2024. It was the 10th year Amazon has held the sale. The Amazon Prime Day sales event took place from July 16 to 17 and began at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time.
Although Amazon did not disclose exactly how much it earned from Prime Day 2024 sales, third-party data shed light on how the event went. The summer sale orchestrated by the online marketplace drove record sales in U.S. e-commerce — from other online retailers. U.S. consumers spent $14.2 billion during the entire Amazon Prime Day 2024 sales event, Digital Commerce 360 previously reported.
According to Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, Amazon customers saved nearly $24 billion in 2023 through deals and coupons. He said Prime members were responsible for the “vast majority of those savings.” More than $2.5 billion of those savings came on Prime Day 2023, Ghani said.
Amazon’s big spring sale event
Previously, the online retail giant held its first Big Spring Sale, its first Prime Day-equivalent sales event in 2024, from March 20-25.
The Amazon Big Spring Sale was open to all customers and Prime members got access to exclusive deals, Amazon said. In addition, Amazon said it would release new deals each day of the event. In the US, shoppers could get up to 50% off beauty products and sports and outdoor gear, according to Amazon. There was also 40% off some home products, spring apparel and electronics.
“The big spring sale was an opportunity for customers to save on seasonally relevant offers on a wide selection of products, including spring fashion, outdoor furniture, lawn and garden supplies, cleaning and organization products, and more,” an Amazon spokesperson told Digital Commerce 360.

Amazon said Prime members bought more than 375 million items during the event last year, making it the biggest Prime Day ever. The mass retailer also said it will have the fastest global shipping speeds ever for Prime members in 2023: More than 4 billion units would arrive the same or next day to U.S. customers and more than 2 billion to customers in Europe.

How much did Amazon earn on Prime Day 2023?
Consumers worldwide spent nearly $13 billion on Amazon.com Inc. during the retail giant’s ninth annual Prime Day, according to an analysis by Digital Commerce 360.
Digital Commerce 360 estimates that Amazon’s Prime Day 2023 sales reached $12.90 billion worldwide during the holiday on July 11 and 12. That’s a 6.7% increase compared to the same shopping spree in 2022, which took place on July 12 and 13.
In 2023, Amazon a second Prime Day sales event on October 10 and 11, 2023. This fall event was called Prime Big Deal Days and was announced in a LinkedIn post by Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Stores. Amazon sellers had previously told Digital Commerce 360 that they had been given a deadline of August 11 to submit deals for the event.
Shoppers largely avoided expensive items in favor of smaller purchases. 58% of purchases during a sale period monitored by research firm Numerator cost less than $20, suggesting that consumers prefer inexpensive products.
According to Digital Commerce 360 Research, the Prime Day summer sales event grew less in 2023 than the previous year, by 6.7% to $12.9 billion.
When is Prime Day 2024?
The next big Amazon sale will take place in October 2024. Amazon held its last big sale in July.

What are the Big Spring Sale and Big Deal Days and how are they different from Prime Days?
Amazon called this year’s opening promotional period in March its “Big Spring Sale.” In October 2023, the company launched a new fall sales event called “Big Deal Days.” Amazon’s “Big Spring Sale” is not just for Prime members. The online retailer also held a fall sale for the first time in 2022, the so-called “Early Access Sale.”
Prime Day has become Amazon’s biggest sale of the year. It usually takes place in the summer months. In 2023, it was July 12 and 13. Historically, the annual two-day sale event is only for Prime members.
Prime Day, which features discounted prices on many products on Amazon.com, began in 2015 as a celebration of Amazon’s 20th anniversary. It evolved into a summer sale designed to generate extra revenue for Amazon – and the retailer’s marketplace sellers – ahead of the holiday shopping season.
