The Motion Picture Association, Hollywood’s trade association representing film and television studios, is welcoming a high-profile new member.

Amazon joins the MPA through its subsidiaries Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon, the producer of films such as Saltburn and TV series like Stand outjoins members Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery, as well as Netflix, which joined as the most recent member in 2019.

The MPA fights on behalf of its members and takes a strong stance, particularly on issues such as copyright and intellectual property protection, anti-piracy, production incentives and other issues that lie at the intersection of public policy and entertainment.

“The MPA is the global voice of a growing and evolving industry, and adding Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios to our ranks will expand our collective efforts to shape policy and protect content on behalf of our most innovative and creative companies,” said Charles Rivkin, MPA chairman and CEO in a statement. “MPA Studios drive local economies, foster job creation, enrich cultures and strengthen communities wherever they operate. With Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios on our roster of exceptional members, the MPA will have an even stronger voice for the world’s greatest storytellers.”

Amazon has worked with the MPA in the past and has served as a board member of the MPA’s anti-piracy group, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), since 2017. MGM was previously a member of the MPA from 1928 to 2005.
