Amazon launches Amazon Saver – a new, low-cost private label for groceries

Amazon launches Amazon Saver – a new, low-cost private label for groceries

In April, the Federal Reserve announced that food prices in U.S. cities have risen by as much as 25%. More and more Americans are viewing fast-food meals – once a cheap and convenient way to eat – as a “luxury.” In fact, food prices have risen so much that people have no choice but to skip meals. The situation has become so worrisome on a national level that Vice President Kamala Harris promised to crack down on “price gouging” within her first 100 days in office if elected.

To help ease that financial burden, Amazon is introducing several new ways to save for Prime members who shop at Amazon Fresh, its digital grocery delivery service and brick-and-mortar supermarket chain. Today, the Seattle-based retail giant unveiled plans for discounts on more than 3,000 items for Prime members, a new private label focused on budget-friendly groceries, and an even more streamlined online experience that will make it easier for anyone to shop from home.

While Amazon Fresh has offered hundreds of discounts to its members so far, the savings opportunities will soon be significantly expanded. One of the deepest discounts – among the more than 3,000 offers available to customers – will include a rotating list of 8-15 products that are up to 50% off each week. The groceries on offer are not limited to pantry items, but can also include meat and fresh produce.

This offer joins two other bulk discounts. Over 1,200 rotating grocery and household products from top brands available only to Amazon Prime members are discounted by 25%. And over 1,700 Amazon private label items are always discounted by 10%. These products carry names you may already recognize, like Aplenty, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Kitchen, 365 by Whole Foods Market, Happy Belly, in addition to a new private label – Amazon Saver.

Amazon describes its newest grocery line as “a no-frills brand that helps save on grocery budgets.” Amazon Saver will include a wide variety of groceries. The parent company says its products will be kitchen staples, “from crackers and cookies to canned fruit and condiments.” It recognizes that the line will be especially helpful for families with children who may need to feed more people on a budget. Most importantly, most of Amazon Saver’s groceries will be under $5, and Prime members will get an additional 10% off.

As if affordable prices weren’t enough, Amazon Fresh also wants to make it easier for customers to order their groceries online. The company says it’s streamlining the shopping experience on its website, starting with a “repeat items” feature. This lets customers quickly fill their cart with items they’ve already purchased, rather than having to search and select them one by one again. There’s also the option to make weekly reservations for when you’d prefer to pick up or have your groceries delivered, saving customers even more time.

Not sure what items you want to buy? The Amazon Fresh website will allow shopping by “theme” or through digital aisles with similarly grouped products, allowing customers to browse the available items and decide what they are looking for. This will replicate the in-store shopping experience and allow customers to easily click from aisle to aisle.

This new savings program for Prime members has already launched in stores and online. Select Amazon Saver products are now available on Amazon Fresh, with hundreds more to come—so keep an eye out for all the deals.
