An English-style cottage for sale in Alamo Heights has been given new life by a designer couple | San Antonio

A 1925 cottage in Alamo Heights has been given a new look and new life thanks to a collaboration between husband-and-wife designers Jack and Dy Lynne Dabney.

Jack’s construction company, Dabney Homes, completely renovated the space, raising the vaulted ceilings, replacing the roof, adding concrete piers to the foundation, and upgrading the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Decorative elements were provided by the couple’s retail business, Joyeux Home Decor, a barn in Olmos Park that specializes in furniture and goods that fit the aesthetic of a modern farmhouse.

The newly renovated three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, dubbed the Wren Cottage, just hit the market with an asking price of just under $1.3 million. The couple’s modern farmhouse aesthetic shines through the 2,200-square-foot property.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the living room, with its marble fireplace and vaulted, shiplap ceilings. The nearby dining room also features shiplap, this time as a backdrop for the wet bar and wine fridge, and as a muted gray wall paneling that continues through the kitchen.

The kitchen is large and equipped with many custom-made cabinets, all of which have a soft-close mechanism. A kitchen back wall and worktop made of dark soapstone also create an elegant eye-catcher.

A bathroom shared by the guest rooms is decorated with a bold but delicate wallpaper in the Blackthorn style, a floral pattern from the 19th century. This beautiful bathroom also features a honeycomb tiled floor and further wall panelling, which seems to be a leitmotif of the modern cottage.

In contrast to the busy, eye-catching guest bathroom, the master bathroom is done in muted gray and features an oversized walk-in shower and marble-topped dual vanities. The master suite also includes a sitting room, walk-in closet, and glass doors that open to the backyard.

Like any good cottage, the backyard features a picturesque stone path through a landscaped garden. The path leads to a casita with private bath.

This home is offered by Janet Heydenreich at Phyllis Browning Co.
