Andy Reid says the Chiefs won’t try to bring back Kareem Hunt, but they should

It was September 7, 2017. I was a senior in high school and that night I wasn’t thinking about school the next day.

I thought about the New England Patriots game against the Kansas City Chiefs later that evening – and I wanted to go.

How could I not? The Patriots were going to unveil their fifth Super Bowl banner before the game. Gillette Stadium was going to be bursting with excitement. Plus, at that point, the Patriots had only lost one home game that I was at (I’m not saying I was their lucky charm at those games, but I definitely was). I felt Great about our chances of winning.

But damn it, the Chiefs did it. And it wasn’t because of Patrick Mahomes (he was a backup at the time). Neither Travis Kelce nor Tyreek Hill broke my heart that night.

A rookie running back named Kareem Hunt managed 246 yards on offense alone, scored three touchdowns and led the Chiefs to a 42-27 win. My night, damn it, my whole Weekend, was ruined largely because of a freshman from the University of Toledo.

I thought to myself, “This kid is going to be special! He’s a solid pass catcher and runner, he’s going to be great for KC.”

And he was – for about a season and a half. Then he started having problems off the field.

Kareem Hunt was fired for domestic violence

To 30 November 2018The NFL suspended Hunt after a video surfaced of him shoving and then kicking a woman. The Chiefs then released him and his career was suddenly over.

“I want to apologize for my actions,” he said said“I deeply regret what I did. I hope I can get over it.”

Hunt left it behind and got a second chance with the Cleveland Browns. He never quite repeated his early success with Kansas City, but he did achieve a respectable five years in a team that was incredibly inconsistent on offense overall.

The best part is that he didn’t get into trouble on the field after his big failure in 2018.

But now Hunt is looking for another team as he is BrowniesAnd who would have thought that his first team needs a running back after the defeat Isaiah Pacheco to an injury yesterday.

But should the Chiefs do it?

The Chiefs should bring Hunt back into the team

The short answer is: It makes sense. But Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said the plan is to stick with the guys they have on the roster.

While that would be easy, it also precludes the signing of a player with great potential. Hunt was responsible for 60 percent of Cleveland’s rushing touchdowns last year and is known for his outstanding performances in Close-distance situations. Personally, I think he’s a better option than anyone else on the Chiefs’ roster or IR list.

Yes, there is always the fear that he might become a victim of domestic violence again. When you do something like that once, there is always a good reason to believe that you might do it again.

However, it has been six years since then and Hunt has not recovered from off-field problems. Moreover, the Chiefs are the last team in the NFL to say they will not hire a certain player because of past problems. After all, they have Rashee Rice on their active roster despite his criminal record being as long as a football field, and they’ve kept Tyreek Hill despite his own extensive off-field issues.

So in reality, it makes sense for the Chiefs to bring Hunt back to the team so he can potentially add some new energy to their backfield. He definitely has some fuel left in the tank.

Personally, I just hope that Hunt’s resurrection doesn’t result in him decimating my Patriots again. I’m prepared for that eventuality.
