Why is there arsenic in apple juice?

Arsenic is a naturally occurring mineral that is toxic to humans.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Arsenic may be present in apples because it is in the environment where apples are grown, bred or processed.

Arsenic in soil, air and water can occur naturally or be present as a result of human activities, such as past use of pesticides or pollution.

In June 2023The FDA has updated industry guidelines requiring apple juice not to contain inorganic arsenic in amounts greater than 10 parts per billion (ppb).

The recall of Refresco apple juice was originally initiated because arsenic levels of 13.2 ppm were found in the juices. FOX Business reported.
