Saturday Night LiveThe 50th season of “The 40 Fingers” starts on September 28th with five shows featuring both star presenters and musical guest couples.
The season will open with first-time host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll. “Season 50 premiere of SNL. Be right back, gonna cry for a few hours and call every family member I have,” Jelly Roll, who will also make his debut as a musical guest, wrote on Instagram. “Bringing therapeutic music to my favorite show of all time. God is good.”
Comedian Nate Bargatze will host on October 5 with musical guest Coldplay, while Ariana Grande will host the October 12 episode with musical guest Stevie Nicks. On October 19, Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish will appear as host and musical guest, respectively. The following weekend, on November 2, pop supernova Chappell Roan will make her Saturday Night Live debut, with John Mulaney hosting the show for the sixth time.
This weekend, Smart won her third Emmy Award for Hacking. Jelly Roll also took the stage there and sang “I Am Not Okay” for the commemorative portion of the awards ceremony. The Bargatze-Coldplay episode marks the second time the comedian has hosted the sketch comedy show and the eighth time the band has performed as a musical guest. Their 10th album Moon Music will be published the day before.
Grande has hosted once before and is returning in anticipation of Evilthe film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. The actress and singer plays Glinda, who eventually becomes the good witch. Nicks is not a witch, but she is known to have the wardrobe of a witch. It’s been almost a decade since the musician last released a full studio album, so it’s anyone’s guess what songs she’ll choose for the evening.
Keaton last hosted the show in 2015 and will appear on the show alongside his return as Beetlejuice in the recently released sequel film. Beetlejuice – Beetlejuice. Eilish appeared as a musical guest in December 2023, but has since released her third studio album Hit me hard and soft“Comeeeeeeeeeeback ;),” she wrote on Instagram.
Saturday Night Live has been preparing for its 50th season for months before the official premiere, including the addition of some new cast members and the departure of others from the team. Additionally, a three-hour special celebrating five decades of SNL is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, February 16. Saturday nightJason Reitman’s upcoming film about the very first SNL Broadcast, hits theaters on October 11th.
