Arizona Volleyball finishes non-conference game 11-0

Utah State may not be one of the expected elite of the WAC, but went into the game against Arizona after a narrow 3-1 loss to North Dakota State on Friday night. Southern Utah was no match for Arizona, however. Arizona was able to show its strength this afternoon and scored another sweep (25-21, 25-19, 25-20).

Carlie Cisneros secured the win with 11 kills and a .391 hitting percentage, and had the game’s highest double-double with 13 digs. Avery Scoggins continued her outstanding freshman season with 37 assists, seven digs and an ace. Alayna Johnson contributed five blocks to lead the Wildcats’ block party on Saturday night.

With Saturday’s win, the Wildcats notched their 11th straight victory and their first undefeated non-conference season since 2009. The 2009 team won 19 games and reached the NCAA tournament before losing to Texas A&M.

Newcomers ensure Wildcats’ resurrection

This could very well prove to be a broken record, as the recruiting class features three high school All-Americans. With the trio of Brenna Ginder, Scoggins and Cisneros all stepping into prominent starting positions right away, the 2024 Arizona volleyball program will have a much different feel.

With Cisneros recording her third double-double on Saturday and Scoggins also recording one this season, 2024 is quickly becoming a freshman year in Tucson.
