Last week, things didn’t look great at first, but Arkansas State’s offense finally came together and was able to win at Michigan. In theory, a trip to Ames isn’t so scary if the Red Wolves can do it in the Big House. The key to the Red Wolves’ success was that they avoided the big mistake that would have penalized them. They used their mobile quarterback to avoid the rush and didn’t get beat themselves — just three penalties. That’s a good formula on the road.

The Cyclones have had a couple of weeks to recover from their intense win over Iowa. This is their last warm-up before Big 12 play begins, and it should be an opportunity to get quarterback Rocco Becht back on track. He did more than well against the Hawkeyes, but playing against this team can be a real pain. It will be easier to stick to the script this week, and I expect the Cyclones to score more points than they have all season – they haven’t reached 21 points yet.

This line is intriguing because it ranks the Cyclones about the same as the Wolverines this season – the same line against the same visiting team. Much like last week, I think the Red Wolves can do enough on offense to win the game. It might come late, like it did last week, but that’s OK. Iowa State doesn’t have that knockout punch.
