Armie Hammer has returned to Los Angeles, but has to sell his beloved truck because gas prices are simply too high.
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, August 27, the disgraced actor, 37, revealed that he got a new apartment in LA and took one last road trip to Carmax in the truck he loved “dearly.”
“I’ve been back in LA for a few weeks now. This is my truck. I bought it as a Christmas present in 2017 because I’ve had pickups for a long time and I love this truck very much,” he said of the black pickup, which he showed parked in a Carmax parking lot.
“This is not an ad for Carmax,” he clarified. “I’m selling my truck.”
“Since I’ve been back in LA, I’ve put about four or five hundred dollars worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it anymore. I can’t afford the gas anymore,” he said.
Hammer’s career collapsed almost overnight after allegations of rape, physical abuse and cannibalistic fantasies were made against him in 2021. He has since spoken out, saying he is “grateful” that the scandal caused “career death.”
The actor added that the truck has sentimental value to him as he has taken it “camping and across the country several times and on long road trips.” He revealed that he used it to bring his children home from the hospital after they were born.
“But you know what? That’s OK,” he said. “That’s OK. I have a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’ll probably spend about $10 a month on gas on it and that’s it.”
He added: “So I have to clean out all this stuff, you know, all kinds of shit. But that’s okay.”
As Hammer panned his camera around the inside of the truck to show all of the belongings he had to retrieve from the vehicle, one object became clearly visible: a large bundle of rope, an eye-catcher given his alleged penchant for BDSM and in particular Shibari, the Japanese form of rope bondage.
The Death on the Nile actor went on to say that his decision to sell his car was linked to his 38th birthday tomorrow, August 28, and the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
“I’m going to start my birthday in a new car, a new apartment and a new life in Los Angeles,” he said in the video.
Hammer also said his children were “not happy” about him selling the four-door pickup because they had so many memories of the time they spent in the truck.
But he tries to focus on two things: “Parking will be easier and gas will be cheaper.”
Hammer spoke openly about his financial problems after he was accused of sexual assault.
As early as 2021, photos emerged that apparently show Hammer hard at work in a new job: selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands.
“I loved it,” the Hammer family scion said in an interview on Bill Maher’s podcast “Club Random” in July. “It’s so much fun.”
When Maher saw the photos of Hammer’s timeshare sale, he thought, “Damn, that guy has balls.” Hammer interjected, “That’s the wrong vowel – it’s ‘bills.’ I have two kids.”
Hammer and his ex Elizabeth Chambers divorced in June 2023. The couple have children together: Harper, 9, and Ford, 7.
According to their divorce settlement, Hammer has agreed to pay Chambers $1,500 per month in child support. The amount was set because he “does not have the income” to pay more. The couple has also agreed to waive spousal support.
