Rhinelander Oneida County Airport has partnered with ArtStart to enhance its terminal by displaying artwork from local artists. The paintings currently on display are inspirational works by award-winning oil painter Sandra Cashman.

“I grew up in rural Connecticut, New York, and my mother volunteered in the local Hudson River art community. That’s how I came into contact with many artists and started painting in oils when I was 12,” Sandra said.

Sandra studied art throughout high school and college, but then pursued a career as managing partner of an advertising agency in West Bend, Wisconsin, temporarily putting painting on the back burner.

“When I retired 7 years ago, we moved to the Northwoods in Manitowish Waters and I think I started a new career as a painter.”

She now owns the Birch Bark Studio in Manitowish Waters, which is part of the Northwoods Art Tour. Sandra said it is an experience for all visitors.

“I paint what inspires me, what surrounds me and what I love about the Northwoods.”

This is Sandra’s first time exhibiting her work at the Rhinelander and she is excited to share it with visitors.

“I’ve been coming here all my life and always dreamed of living here one day. Because it’s those moments when you’re out in the woods, watching the sun go down or seeing wildlife that just touch your heart.”

Sandra said that this is exactly what she wants to share with others.

“I try to capture the moments that touch my heart and that probably touch other people as well. Especially people who are visiting but don’t live here permanently. So I try to capture those moments and share them with people so they can take a little piece of the Northwoods home with them.

To see her work, stop by the Rhinelander Airport. To learn more or find her studio, visit her website or her Facebook page.

Traci Stinebrink, communications director at ArtStart, would like to invite all artists who would like to exhibit their work in the Rhinelander Airport terminal to apply online.
