CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Lots of visitors, but unfortunately few hummingbirds, came to the Hummingbird Festival at Wade Bourne Nature Center on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon.

The event is sponsored by the Southeastern Avian Research Group and the Warioto Audubon Society and features hummingbird capturing and ringing demonstrations by master ringer Cyndi Routledge.

“It was a great day to celebrate birds, bees and all pollinators,” said Katie Netti, director of natural resources and programming. “Last year they caught and banded 39 hummingbirds, and one that had been banded the year before came back to Rotary Park and was recaptured. It had flown to Mexico and back.”

Jeff Danault contributed to this report.
