The Auburn football team was in full swing in its season opener in Week 1 against Alabama A&M.
The Tigers beat the Bulldogs 73-3 despite the second half consisting of two 10-minute halves after Auburn took a 52-3 halftime lead. Quarterback Payton Thorne completed 13 of 21 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns, while Malcolm Simmons had three catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. Sensational freshman receiver Cam Coleman finished the game with two catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Now Auburn will turn its attention to one of the ACC’s newest members in Cal. The Bears are fresh off a 31-13 win over UC Davis. After a slow start, including a 13-7 deficit in the second quarter, Cal scored 24 unanswered points and won. Fernando Mendoza completed 15 of 22 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown, while Jadyn Ott contributed 49 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Auburn defeated Cal 14-10 last season on September 9, 2023, in Berkeley, California, in the only meeting between the two teams in their history. Thorn scored a 5-yard touchdown to Rivardo Fairweather with 6:31 left in the game to secure the win for the Tigers.
