RACE 1: $20,000 WINNINGS (N/W2L), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

10-7-9-3 (DIRT: 7-8-11-9)

We will end the summer season at Laurel Park with a bang: a busy program of 13 races awaits us this afternoon. #10 Mo Caliente (4-1) makes his second start under the claim of Nolan Ramsey, who has had great success with his Maryland starters this year. He put up a brave fight to earn his first win two starts ago at Gulfstream Park and now gets some help for his second start against winners. This is his first start in the Mid-Atlantic region, but he’s been here since early July, so he’s had time to settle in. #7 Mike the Bomb (5-1) has shown speed and stamina in his last two starts against similar opposition. Most recently he stayed the whole way behind leader Landslide is Home (who also returns here), took advantage of his rival’s weak spell and managed to hold on to third place. With a slightly better timed maneuver and perhaps more honest pace dynamics he can do some damage. #9 Homer Jones (8-1) He posted a career-best Brisnet score of 86 in his last start on turf at Parx two starts ago and will be hoping to improve on that by finishing third after a dull effort on Presque Isle Downs’ artificial turf.

RACE 2: MAIDEN CLAIMING $12,500, 3, 4 and 5 years old, 6 furlongs

6-5-7-4

#6 Right fast (8-1) hasn’t run a bad one-turn race this year and his best races have been over six furlongs or less. He should flourish here after going longer distances in his last few races. #5 Fierce Competition (7-2) He ran a solid 60 on his debut two starts ago, then he might have left his race last. He’s wearing blinkers and will be a threat when he calms down a bit. #7 Little Cage Fighter (5-2) showed speed and held well on turf last time out and he should be a pace factor on his first attempt at a distance of less than a mile.

RACE 3: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, FEEDS AND MARES, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)

1-2-4-5 (DIRT: 4-10-6-8)

#1 Oncourt Commentator (2-1) has shown tremendous closing speed in her last two races, including a near second place in her first attempt against the winners of the last race, and should be successful from a mile. #2 Church Love (7-2) came from far behind to win her first victory at this track last October. She now gets a class relief after showing little in the Christiana Stakes recently. She is likely to make a late comeback with Oncourtcommentator and has similar potential. #4 Viennese Waltz (12-1) ran on clay three times in a row in the 1980s and has some pedigree for grass, being the half-sister of three winners on that surface (although her most famous brother, Cordmaker, did not win there).

RACE 4: ELIGIBLE: $12,500 (N/W2L), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 1 MILE

6-1-4-5

#6 Amani’s Tiger (9-5) almost caught Burton Way, the start-to-finish winner, but missed him by a nose. Still, it was a solid effort for his first start on clay against winners. He is the only one in the field who has run at least a 76 in each of his last four clay races. #1 Don’t admit anything (5-1) was running in this race for the first time after a 10-month break and was completely worn out, which is understandable considering he hadn’t raced for so long. He ran scores of 79 and 81 towards the end of last year and will be a contender if he can continue to regain that form. #4 Papa Funny (10-1) ran respectable races on sand and grass at Delaware Park towards the end of last year and has a chance to improve to second place after a long break.

RACE 5: CLAIM $30,000 (N/W2L), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 5 1/2 FURLONGS (GRASS)

5-4-1-3 (DIRT: 9-8-4-5)

#5 Great Kisser (6-1) set the pace and never looked back in her debut on grass. With an impressive 80 titles, she won more titles than ever before. She will be hard to catch again this time. #4 P Money (3-1) is the first to answer Jamie Ness’s claim, finishing fourth behind a favourite winner on his last local debut. #1 More Luck (5-2) was recently worn out after a long ride against a better opponent at Saratoga, but came close to the pace and narrowly missed against a similar opponent two starts ago at Pimlico.

RACE 6: MAIDEN CLAIMING $30,000, 3, 4 and 5 years old, 6 furlongs

6-4-2-7

#6 Speed (2-1) recently recovered to a personal best 77 points when he was second to favourite This is Good, and now drops to that level for the first time on clay. A repeat of his last race clears those two. #4 Beach Cowboy (5-2) goes first from Kieron Magee and has improved significantly with each start. He withstood the pressure of the pace and was caught late in the last out on his first attempt for a tag. #2 Mats are important (8-1) is consigned by Penn National for Bruce Kravets and adds blinkers. He ran a much better race recently when he chased the pace and stayed second to similar contenders.

RACE 7: LEGAL (N/W1X), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)

6-2-1-5 (DIRT: 9-7-4-2)

#6 Mission North (5-2) After some promising attempts he finally broke through with an impressive win in the first race two starts ago and then a convincing fourth in his first attempt against winners in the last race at Aqueduct. He should flourish on his return to local opposition. #2 Into It (7-2) He battled hard to win at Aqueduct in his last attempt, his second start since returning east from California, and should have a nice trip near the leaders. #1 Higher Ranked Game (9-2) is fast on the inside lane and will look to repeat recent start-to-finish victories at Parx and Delaware.

RACE 8: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $20,000, 3 YEARS AND OLDER, FEEDS AND MARES, 7 FURLONGS

7-1A-3-2

#7 Mo Tough (7-2) was put under pressure recently and managed to hold on to second place after being put under pressure to reach the exacta for the fourth time in a row. She will probably be a pace factor from the outside. #1A Sister Supream (2-1) sat the whole trip and won first to claim Jamie Ness at the last race and will press his advantage if Mo Tough cannot hold the lead. #3 Levisa (5-1) doesn’t have as high a power ceiling as some of the others, but took his first win last time out after a five-month break.

RACE 9: ALL BRANDY STAKES, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND OLDER, FEEDS AND MARES, MD RESTRICTED, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

11-8-6-4 (DIRT: 10-13-2-3)

#11 My Brazilian Girl (20-1) is still a maiden but has already produced some great performances to rival those in her four-race career. She ran an 86 two races ago in the Tepin Stakes when she finished a respectable sixth despite big odds, then held on long in the last race at Ellis Park to finish second with a 93. She doesn’t have the foundation of her rivals but her natural talent could make the difference. #8 District Home (6-1) came out of the clouds to lose the Jameela Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths and now she’s stretching back two turns from this six-furlong contest, winning her last two-turn start against top-notch opposition with ease. #6 Next episode (10-1) has taken two consecutive wins at Colonial Downs from just behind the leader and will play a role here too with the right trip.

RACE 10: ELIGIBILITY (N/W1X), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 1 1/16 MILES

8-2-4-3

#8 Harold’s Cloud (2-1) was taken on by Anthony Farrior in his last start at Churchill Downs and is now ready for his local debut. He lost position early after a poor start in the last race and had little chance from then on, but came back from a close deficit to win two weeks ago. #2 JD Factor (7-2) He also struggled early last time out at Parx when favorited against a similar horse, but ran some strong races in his first two starts at Aqueduct, including a second place in his first start against winners between two winners in the next race. #4 Galatians (10-1) has great late pace stats and although he hasn’t won in a while, he should have enough punch on the track to take a piece of the pie.

RACE 11: FIND Stakes, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND OLDER, MD-RESTRICTED, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

1-8-4-7 (DIRT: 2-3-6-1)

#1 Crabs and Beer (9-2) has not been able to keep up with his second-tier rivals in his last races at New York, but won at this track earlier this year and was a convincing second in the next Dinner Party Stakes. He has always shown a lot of potential and should be able to handle these races. #8 Riccio (8-1) finished a solid third in the last race against Delaware-certified rivals including Select Stakes champion Smithwick’s Spice and has shown an affinity for this racetrack. #4 The sky doesn’t fall (2-1) is probably best when he runs shorter laps, but from time to time he shows up and wins after two laps.

RACE 12: CLAIM $12,500 (CONDITIONED), 3 YEARS AND OLDER, 1 1/16 MILES

6-7-1A-4

#6 The Law of the Jungle (7-2) Jane Cibelli has been running consistently over 70 mph for most of the summer meet and now goes first from Anthony Farrior after struggling moderately of late. A recovery to something close to his peak is the win. #7 Attribute (9-5) Dropping down from the optional starter claiming level, he will look to take things down a notch on the front lines and ensure Jamie Ness ends his summer meeting with a win. #1A Inspired Irish (5-2) has finally said goodbye to his two-point non-winner condition with a speed stalking win over six panels at Colonial and has run well for two rounds in the past.

RACE 13: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3-, 4- AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)

5-4-1-7 (DIRT: 5-9-4-2)

#5 Stow-On-the-Wold (9-5) In his first race in ten months, he finished a solid, fast second two times at this level and should do even better against these reserve thirds. #4 Dyna Point (9-2) has fallen victim to slow faces in her last two starts but should at least have enough bite to secure a share. #1 Stone Projectile (3-1) has lost some of his performance in his last starts, but has recently managed to move up to second place and should feel at home at this level. See you at the fair!
