AVON – The closed Christmas Tree Shops at 15 Stockwell Drive has a new owner – Ocean State Job.
The Rhode Island-based retailer announced the purchase of the new building in a press release on its website.
Christmas Tree Shops filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2023. The company had 82 stores, including 15 in Massachusetts and five of them on Cape Cod.
“With the expansion of our Avon location, Ocean State Job Lot is excited to expand our presence in Massachusetts and offer our unique brand of value and variety to even more customers,” Chief Financial Officer John Conforti said in the statement.
“We are proud to be a cornerstone of the community and look forward to filling the void left by Christmas tree stores with a shopping experience that is both familiar and exciting,” said Conforti. “Our growing presence across the state demonstrates our commitment to providing greater convenience and exceptional savings to our loyal customers.”
This isn’t the only former Christmas Tree Shops location the discount retailer is taking over. Ocean State Job Lot recently announced the purchase of the former Christmas Tree Shops store in Warwick, Rhode Island, and the leasing of a store in Pembroke.

About the Ocean State Job Lot Avon Location
The new store will be located in Merchants Park, off Route 24, and will offer customers 33,000 square feet of “open and bright shopping space,” the company said. Other tenants in the park include Home Depot, Jordan’s Furniture, Costco, Ikea, Party City, New Balance, Dunkin’ and Subway.
When will the new Ocean State Job Lot open?
The opening of all three new stores is planned for this fall, the statement said.

Local stores include: 105 Campanelli Industrial Drive, Brockton; 225 Bedford St., Carriage Crossing Shopping Center, East Bridgewater; 3005 Cranberry Highway, East Wareham; 465 William S. Canning Blvd., Fall River; 182 Summer St., Kingsbury Square, Kingston; The Webster Square Shopping Center, Marshfield; 10 Merchants Way, Middleboro; 1068 King’s Highway, New Bedford; 295 Old Oak St., Pembroke; 141 Newport Ave., Quincy; 360 Market St., Rockland; 280 Winthrop St. Plaza 44 and 70 Taunton Depot Drive, both in Taunton; 40 Main St., Weymouth.
Not the only defunct retailer that Job Lot is taking over
The press release notes that Ocean State Job Lot has purchased several vacant Toys ‘R Us stores, including the store at 105 Campanelli Industrial Drive in Brockton.
