Bachelorette Jenn Tran speaks out after split from Devin Strader

Bachelorette Jenn Tran speaks out after split from Devin Strader

Jenn Tran speaks out about her separation from Devin Strader.

To The Bachelorette On the season 21 finale on Tuesday, September 3, Jenn and Devin got engaged in Hawaii, but the couple later announced that they had split. Jenn spoke about what happened in their relationship on the “After the Final Rose” special and revealed that Devin’s feelings changed almost immediately.

“As soon as we left Hawaii, everything was different,” she told host Jesse Palmer. “It felt like he was taking back all the promises he had made to me – that he wanted to move somewhere together, that he wanted to have the future planned, that he wanted to see each other all the time.”

Jenn explained that she stopped receiving calls and texts from Devin and became “confused.” Then, one night, she got a call from her then-fiancé.

“He called me and basically called off the engagement,” she said. “(He said) he didn’t love me anymore, felt the same way and felt like something was wrong since his second proposal. He regretted his engagement.”

Trying to understand the pressures of being engaged on a reality show, Jenn offered to work with Devin on the matter.

“(I said) ‘Let’s just be together. We don’t have to be engaged – I want a life with you, I don’t need a ring on my finger,'” she recalled. “He was checked out. It wasn’t what he wanted anymore. And I fought for the relationship, tried everything to empathize with him and try to make things work. He didn’t want to go to couples counseling. He didn’t want to fight for the relationship anymore.”

After this phone call, which Jenn said lasted 15 minutes, she claimed that Devin did not respond to her contact.

“We were fully engaged and in love and now you ignore my texts like I mean nothing to you,” she said.

As fans may recall, Jenn stayed behind for the fantasy suites with her three suitors Devin, Marcus and Jonathan. At the time, she expressed her strong feelings for Devin, saying being with him “just feels right” and he “makes me feel loved and just supported.”

“I want to be in love with Devin and I think I’m very close to that goal,” the aspiring medical assistant added to the cameras.

Marcus, on the other hand, confessed to his overnight date: “I’m not ready to be in love yet.”

“You deserve someone who is sure of you,” Marcus told Jenn. “I don’t know if I’m putting pressure on myself because this process has happened so quickly or because it’s coming to an end so quickly, but it’s been hard for me to get to a point where I can confidently say I’m in love.”

However, Jenn had to be honest about her feelings, which were stronger than Marcus’s during the overnight dates. She told him, “I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you that I’m in love with you.”

She and Jonathan also seemed to get along well on the way to the fantasy suites, and also threw the word “L” into the room.

“I felt like I could spend the rest of my life with this guy,” Jenn said of the creative director.

“I have no doubt that I can wake up tomorrow and say, ‘Hey, this is my person. I’m so in love,'” he then told the cameras.

Ultimately, Jonathan was sent home and Marcus and Devin competed for the final rose, which, as fans now know, went to Devin.

Jenn previously spoke to PEOPLE about her time on the dating show — where she was the lead actress whose 25 suitors competed for a marriage proposal at the end of the season. When asked if she would tune in, Jenn was quick to answer.

“Are you kidding me? I’m not going to watch the best two months of my life? Of course I am!” she said in a July issue. “I’m so excited for the premiere. I think it’s so weird that this crazy journey has happened and I’m just so excited to be able to watch it again.”

Following the Men Tell All special, where Jenn took the opportunity to stand up to Sam M. after she felt he disrespected her on their dates, she told PEOPLE that she learned a lot from the experience and even hinted at how she feels ahead of the finale.

“I’ve grown so much on this journey that I’m a completely different person now than I was then,” she explained. “I have a new confidence and a new empowerment. When I look back on it all, there are definitely certain situations with (the boys) that brought a lot of light to me in retrospect and I was like, ‘Oh, now I can pinpoint exactly what went wrong here and why I felt that way or why I didn’t stand up for myself.'”

“I don’t regret the whole journey,” she added later. “I think everything went exactly the way it was supposed to go and I’m so happy about it. I own up to all the mistakes I made along the way and stuff, and I like to learn from them. So I don’t regret anything.”
