Baltimore Ravens make changes to their roster ahead of game against Chiefs

Just hours before their season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Baltimore Ravens are not yet finished restructuring their roster.

The Ravens made a number of roster moves on Thursday, with the most notable perhaps being the placement of rookie running back Rasheen Ali on the injured list. Ali, a rookie fifth-round pick out of Marshall, has been battling a neck injury since the season opener on Aug. 9 and his participation was listed as questionable on the Ravens’ injury report. Now on the injured list, he will miss at least the first four games of the season. The earliest he could return is Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Interestingly, Baltimore also did not place rookie edge rusher Adisa Isaac, who is already out for Thursday’s game, on the injured list. The third-round pick out of Penn State battled two hamstring injuries in the offseason, one in each leg. Based on their decision not to place him on the injured list, they likely expect him to return sooner rather than later.

Due to the open spot on the roster, the Ravens signed linebacker Josh Ross, who is in his third year, to the active roster. Ross was among the final roster cuts last week, and Baltimore was able to bring him back to the practice squad. The Ravens opted to have only four inside linebackers on their initial roster, and one of them, Malik Harrison, often plays outside. By bringing Ross up, they have added some depth to the middle of the defense.

Finally, Baltimore has activated both cornerback Ka’dar Hollman and running back John Kelly for Thursday’s game. Both players will be used on special teams throughout the evening.

The Ravens begin their season at 8:20 p.m. ET at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
