Baltimore Ravens rookie speaks out ahead of his first career game

Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins served fans a tasty taster during the preseason, and now it’s finally time for the main course.

Wiggins, the 30th pick in this year’s draft, shined in his preseason debut against the Philadelphia Eagles, intercepting three passes on the first drive alone. Unfortunately, he had to leave the game with a shoulder injury and the Ravens kept him under wraps for the rest of the preseason, but it was more than enough to turn heads around the league.

Now it’s just a matter of days until Wiggins makes his regular season debut, and his anticipation couldn’t be greater.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am right now,” Wiggins told reporters, according to the team’s website. “I’ve worked for this my whole life, so I’m ready to put on a show for everyone.”

Wiggins, who just turned 21 last week, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds at the Combine, the second fastest time of any player. As luck would have it, in his first game he will face the only player who ran faster than him: Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who set a new Combine record for the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.21 seconds. If the two rookies compete often, it will be a track and field meet for the ages.

“I mean, speed versus speed,” Wiggins said. “I guess we’ll see who’s faster.”

It’s not just Worthy Wiggins who has to worry. The Chiefs offense has weapons all over the field and the league’s best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, is the one leading the offense. However, Wiggins is looking forward to this challenge in his first career game.

“I mean, it’s a lot of fun,” Wiggins said. “To play against someone who is considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time in my first game is a lot. I’m not going to play against anyone better than him. I mean, I just need to get it over with. I think that’s a good thing for me.”
