Band members of “Jane’s Addiction” get into an argument at a show in Boston and end concert early

BOSTON – Members of the alternative band Jane’s Addiction were seen fighting onstage during their performance in Boston on Friday night.

Fight captured on video

It happened during the band’s performance at the Leader Bank Pavilion. A video shows singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro shouting and confronting each other in the middle of a song, shoving each other before Farrell throws a punch at Navarro. Another man then jumps between them and breaks up the fight. The concert ended early afterward.

“I guess it’s a reminder of the classic rock mentality of being a bad boy and all that. That seems to have kind of died out and this really refreshes people’s memories of that,” said one fan.

“I don’t see anything like this at any other concert. It’s pretty crazy to be honest,” says Eoin O’Donnell, who was completely blown away by the video.

A video of the incident quickly spread on social media and some fans speculated whether the band would break up.

Wife blames frustration

“Perry’s frustration grew night after night. He felt the volume on stage was extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday morning.

She said her husband suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat and “by the end of the song he was no longer singing but screaming just to be heard.” She said her husband later broke down “and cried and cried.”

Jane’s Addiction, known for songs like “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing,” is on its first tour in 15 years. Their next show, scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was canceled via social media on Saturday.

“We would like to extend our deepest apologies to our fans for the events of last night. As a result, we will be cancelling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport,” Jane’s Addiction said on Facebook.

The band said ticket providers would refund the cost of Sunday’s show.

“I guess when you buy a ticket to a Jane’s Addiction concert, you’re taking a risk,” says Boston native Rich Wade.

WBZ-TV asked concert promoter Live Nation for comment but received no response.
