Barbara Kingsolver receives NBF Lifetime Achievement Award

Author Barbara Kingsolver is the recipient of this year’s National Book Foundation Medal for Outstanding Contributions to American Literature.

The National Book Foundation, organizer of the National Book Awards, has announced that it will award Barbara Kingsolver the 2024 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters (DCAL). The award will be presented at the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Kingsolver’s work includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry collections, investigative journalism, children’s books, and academic writing. She is the author of nine novels, and her most recent novel, Demon Copperhead, won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was an Oprah Book Club selection. She has been honored by the American Booksellers Association, the American Library Association, the James Beard Foundation, and the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2021.

Kingsolver will receive the 2024 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Literature by Sam Stoloff, president and head of the Frances Goldin Literary Agency, at the 75th National Book Awards on November 20.
