Barcelona Airport surpasses passenger record in July

Barcelona airport saw 5.38 million passengers in Julyan increase of 9% compared to the same month in 2023, according to figures released on Wednesday by Spanish airport authority Aena.

Since the beginning of the year, Catalonia’s largest airport has registered 31.47 million passengers, which is 12.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

Of the more than 5 million passengers registered in July, 4 million were international flights, an increase of 11%.

These figures show Barcelona airport has recovered the offer that the infrastructure had in 2019 before the pandemic.

This summer, new routes were launched, such as United Airlines to San Francisco, Level to Miami, Air Premia to Seoul, Ryanair to Tangier and Air Arabia to Rabat.

In addition, some other routes have been resumed, such as Saudia to Rydah and Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. Air Canada’s route to Montreal has also been increased in frequency.

During these seven months of 2024, there were 199,752 flights, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

Girona Airport The number of passengers also rose to 286,686 in July, an increase of 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Since the beginning of the year, Girona Airport has counted over one million passengers.

Another airport in Catalonia, the Reus Airportalmost reached 200,000 passengers in July, a total of 199,467, an increase of 13.7%.

In the whole of 2024, the airport in southern Catalonia counted 662,930 travelers, 16.5% more than in the same period last year.
