Beacon Falls firefighters rescued 19 lives and a dog from a restaurant during deadly flooding in Oxford

OXFORD, CT (WFSB) – Firefighters from the Beacon Falls Fire Department successfully rescued nineteen people and a dog from the Brookside Inn Restaurant during severe flooding on Sunday.

On Sunday, the restaurant was surrounded by twelve to twenty centimeters of water.

As the Oxford Fire Department was busy with other emergency calls, the Beacon Hose Fire Department responded from the air.

The operation was led by fire safety officer Cal Brennan, who deployed a 33-meter-long turntable ladder to evacuate the people trapped in the building.

The rescue operation was further complicated by a leaking propane tank in the building.

Despite these challenges, Brennan described the experience as one of his most memorable rescues.

Brennan remembers this experience as one of the most unforgettable rescues he has ever taken part in.

“Everything went smoothly thanks to everyone’s dedication and training. We train every Monday night and haven’t communicated much. We just said, this is our plan, this is plan A, let’s do it,” Brennen said.

Following the rescue, the fire department provided the rescued people with a safe place to warm up and recover.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.
