Bears place three on the injured list, including fan-favorite RB

On Saturday, the Chicago Bears placed three players on the injured list, ending their chance of playing in the 2024 regular season. One of the players was a fan-favorite undrafted rookie running back who had a strong preseason performance.

Bears suffered serious injuries on Thursday evening

Several players suffered serious injuries in Thursday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Cornerback Douglas Coleman was hospitalized for an injury. Head coach Matt Eberflus said Coleman was released from the hospital on Friday and will return to Chicago.

According to Adam Hoge of CHGO Sports, Coleman and wide receiver Nsimba Webster (groin injury) were placed on the injured list. They will miss the season as they are expected to go on the injured list before the 53-man roster is finalized on August 27.

Fan favorite RB Ian Wheeler misses season

According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, Ian Wheeler is also being placed on the injured list, effectively ending his season. Wheeler suffered a torn ACL in Thursday night’s game against the Chiefs.

Wheeler was a fan favorite in Chicago this summer after his appearance on the HBO series “Hard Knocks.” The former Howard star put medical school on hold to pursue his dream of making the NFL roster.

After his performance against the Buffalo Bills in the preseason, some believed Wheeler had an outside chance of making the Bears’ practice squad. Against the Bills, he ran five times for 43 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Wheeler finished the preseason with 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. In his last game against the Chiefs, Wheeler ran five times for five yards, an average of one yard per carry.
