Beaverton police continue search for missing 32-year-old nurse: “Highly unusual case”

Beaverton police have arrested the neighbor of a missing nurse.

Early Saturday morning, police announced that they arrested 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert on Friday evening. He is accused of murdering Melissa Jubane. Jubane’s remains have been recovered, police said. No further details were released.

This is an evolving story.

Two days after a Beaverton woman was reported missing, the search is still ongoing.

Melissa Jubane is a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. When she didn’t show up for work on Wednesday, her colleagues called the police. Shortly thereafter, the police launched a public appeal for help.

Few details have been released by police, but in an official interview with KATU, Beaverton Police Officer Matt Henderson called the case “highly unusual” and said they would use “all available resources” to find her.

Several officers and police vehicles were outside Jubane’s Beaverton residence on Friday afternoon. Henderson told KATU they spoke to every neighbor and used bloodhounds to track her, but they found nothing.

According to a wedding planning website, Jubane was scheduled to get married in Hawaii on August 25, less than two weeks before she was last seen. KATU was unable to reach her husband or other family members for comment.

“Melissa was, she was really sorry,” said Samantha Oregon, a friend of Jubane, fighting back tears.

“She was a very helpful person. She loved helping people. She had a really big heart. No matter what the situation or what it was, she was always willing to help people.”

On Friday morning, Oregon and another friend of Jubane, Vianca Urias, organized a search party for her.

“With very limited information, we can’t just sit there and do nothing,” Urias said. “I think if we wait any longer, you know, time is very short right now,” she said.

Dozens of people came to comb woods, trails and surrounding streets. A second search party is planned for Friday evening.

“It started with a little post on social media and it’s just crazy and amazing how quickly the word got around and how many of these people were there for her,” Oregon said.

Beaverton Police are asking anyone with information to call Criminal Investigation at 503-526-2280 and reference case number 24-2480460. They have also set up a digital portal where evidence can be submitted.

Jubane is described as being 1.57 m tall and weighing 54 kg.
