Beloved family cat travels 800 miles to return home after going missing in Yellowstone

SALINAS, Calif. (KSBW) – A California couple has found their cat after it went missing during a trip to Yellowstone National Park.

After two months outdoors and under the open sky, the cat has found its way home after a journey of over 1,300 kilometers.

Benny and Susanne Anguiano searched the forest area around Yellowstone for days after their cat Rayne Beau escaped while camping.

The couple said they received help from park rangers and other campers, but Rayne Beau was nowhere to be found.

“We had to leave without him,” said Susanne Anguiano. “That was the worst day because I felt like I was letting him down.”

After 60 days, the couple can only hope that their cat is still out there.

“Then a message appeared from Pet Watch with an identifying microchip,” said Benny Anguiano.

A woman in Roseville eventually found Rayne Beau and brought him to the local animal rescue group.

“He was really exhausted. He probably didn’t have enough energy to go any further. The woman who found him and saved him is simply an angel,” said Susanne Anguiano. “He looked like he wasn’t going to last much longer.”

But how did Rayne Beau survive two months seemingly alone and make it from Yellowstone to Roseville – over 800 miles?

The Anguianos said they hoped someone knew, but were happy to have their little guy back home.

They also say Rayne Beau’s story is an important reminder for pet owners to microchip their pets.
