Ben Bishop on Sam Adonis’ advice and how he applies it

Ben Bishop recently spoke about how Sam Adonis asked him for advice and how he implemented it. Bishop spoke to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview and you can see the highlights below:

On the subject of advice from Adonis: “Sam Adonis reached out to me, and we’ve never met. We just followed each other on social media, always kept up with each other and respected what the other was doing. He just saw something that I did, I forget what exactly it was, but he saw something and said, ‘Hey, man, you can take this advice however you want. I know we’ve never met. I see what you’ve done, and you need to understand that you’re different. You’re different than everybody else in the indies. You’re not just this big guy that looks like a Mongolian, right? You’re a big guy. You look good. You have something, it feels like you just have a little bit of talent to like what people want, and you just give in to all these showmen and professional wrestling. Treat wrestling like you don’t need it. Just treat it like you don’t need it and don’t give a damn what people say. Try to go in a different direction. Don’t keep doing the same thing. Because at the end of the day, people don’t want you to succeed. A lot of people don’t want you to succeed in wrestling. That’s very popular. They want to keep you as small as possible.'”

How he implemented the advice: “So I said, ‘Okay, you know what? I have this content that Nick wants to do, this great advice from Sam. I like making fun of wrestling. I think it’s silly. It’s a circus. Why don’t I just do it in video form and see what happens?’ I just did it to impress myself. I didn’t do it because I thought, ‘Oh, this is going to be a success and I want to make a job out of it. I just thought, let’s have some fun and make it funny again.’ It’s almost like it’s therapeutic. That’s it. Now we’re here.”
