Bergen County teenager arrested in armed gas station robbery

A 16-year-old Bergen County resident was arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery at a gas station in River Edge, officials reported.

According to Bergen County District Attorney Mark Musella, the incident occurred early in the morning on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, around 4:45 a.m.AdvertisementRiver Edge police officers responded to the scene of a robbery at a gas station on Hackensack Avenue, where an employee reported being threatened by an armed individual.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, wearing a mask and a hoodie, approached the gas station employee and brandished a handgun tucked into his waistband.

He demanded cash from the cash register and from the employee and fled with several hundred dollars.

During a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit and the River Edge Police Department, detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 16-year-old Bergen County juvenile.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives found the teenager and took him into custody. As part of the investigation, a court-ordered search warrant was executed on his apartment.

The teenager was charged with armed robbery, weapons offenses and theft.AdvertisementThe juvenile is currently being held in the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center while the case is being heard by the Family Law Division of the Bergen County Superior Court.
