The Stand out The series is known for its memorable characters and settings. As with every part Fallout4 is no different, introducing a number of Boston characters as well as the humanoid robots known as Synths, who are often indistinguishable from normal humans. From vicious enemies that are the focus of the main questline to less involved NPCs, the world of Fallout4 offers a cast of characters that are sure to stay in players’ memories.

Throughout the Commonwealth, players will encounter various factions and settlements, each populated by unique individuals with their own styles and characteristics. Some individuals in Fallout4 manage to stand out from the crowd thanks to their memorable designs. The following list takes into account the general presentation and design of these characters, as well as the correspondence of their external appearance with their personal temperament.

8 Mayor McDonough

The corrupt mayor of Diamond City has many secrets under his hat

• Quests: Jewel of the Commonwealth, Getting a Cue, In Sheep’s Clothing, Political Leanings

Few characters in the Commonwealth are as corrupt and devious as Diamond City’s mayor, McDonough. As with most characters in the game, there is more to the mayor than meets the eye. However, his appearance gives a hint of what kind of 1940s capitalist he is.

Players will encounter the Mayor in several quests, including quite early in the game’s story. The side quest “In Sheep’s Clothing” reveals more about his past, but players must have completed the main questline first.

7 Piper Wright

The Diamond City Journalist is a popular companion

• Quests: Jewel of the Commonwealth, Get a Clue, Reunions, Story of the Century, In Sheep’s Clothing

Piper was an instant hit with many fans and a popular companion, especially during the early stages of Fallout4The journalist from Diamond City also has a retro look that immediately shows that he worked in the printing and publishing industry of the 1940s and 1950s.

Piper’s relentless pursuit of the truth and a good story leads her to join the Sole Survivor if he is willing to accept her offer. Piper is involved in several quests throughout the game, both as part of the main story and as additional side quests in Diamond City.

6 Crafting Tom

A craftsman with eccentric looks and personality

• Quests: The Molecular Level, Weather Vane, The Red Glow of the Rockets, The Nuclear Option

Tinker Tom is the chief engineer and weapons expert of the rebellious railroad faction. Tom is a little bit of a nutcase, as befits a good inventor, and can often be found engrossed in one project or another, usually tinkering with weapons, hence his nickname.

The large magnifying glass modification on his flying hat is certainly unique. Other than that, he has the appearance of an ordinary mechanic. The combination of his eccentric personality, fitting nickname and appearance make Tinker Tom one of the most memorable characters of the faction.

5 Vault-Tec Representative

A unique character who appears both before and after the war

• Quests: The war never changes, familiar faces

Fallout4 gave players their first personal glimpse into life before the war in the game’s prologue. One character that appears here is the Vault-Tec representative who comes to the door to promote the Vault-Tec program.

He can later be found several hundred years later as a ghoul – ironically, he himself missed a spot in the vaults the day the bombs fell. To find him in the post-war setting, players can head to the Hotel Rexford in Goodneighbour. The Vault-Tec Rep features a fairly standard design during the prologue of Fallout4but it becomes incredibly memorable later when he becomes a ghoul.

4 Elder Maxson

The authoritarian leader of the Brotherhood of Steel

• Quests: Shadow of Steel, Business Trip, Show No Mercy, The Molecular Plane, From Within, The Battle of Bunker Hill. Blind Betrayal, Ad Victoriam, The Nuclear Option, A New Dawn, Rocket Red Glow, Airship Crashed

Elder Maxson, whom some players may recognize as a junior scribe from the Citadel in Fallout3is the leader of the Brotherhood of Steel in the Commonwealth. His fierce and militaristic demeanor is indicative of his tough and ruthless approach to conquering the territory.

As the main quest giver of the Brotherhood faction questline, Maxson plays an important role in the story of players who choose this path. Those who choose to defeat the Brotherhood of Steel can obtain Maxson’s unique Elder Power Armor and the Final Judgment Gatling Laser.

3 DiMA

This synthesizer prototype plays a central role in the story of Far Harbor

The synthesizer prototype DiMA is one of the central characters in Far Harbor DLC and serves as the leader of the citizens of Acadia. The soft-spoken experimenter certainly seems to have good intentions, but as you dig deeper into his past, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems – leading to one of the most challenging puzzles in the entire Stand out Series.

DiMA’s design is a chaotic mix of wires and modifications protruding from a synth body, though his slightly ragged appearance also unmistakably identifies him as a fugitive on the run. Players can ultimately decide whether to ally with him, attack him, or hand him over to the citizens of Far Harbor.

2 John Hancock

The mayor of Goodneighbour has a strikingly classic look

• Quests: The Great Dig, The Silver Shroud, Art Appreciation, Recruit Hancock

The incumbent mayor of Goodneighbour, John Hancock, held the office at the time of the Fallout4s events. After Mayor McDonough drove him out of Diamond City, Hancock founded his own settlement for outcasts a little further away.

The drug-addicted ghoul is generally very popular in Goodneighbour and players can complete a variety of tasks for him and possibly even recruit him as a companion. Hancock’s appearance is in the classic Boston style, with a tricorn hat and long red coat. He is impossible to miss in a crowd of ghouls.

1 Nick Valentine

A synth detective with a pre-war personality

• Quests: Unlikely Valentine’s Day, Getting a Hunch, Reunion, Dangerous Thoughts, A Long Time Coming

Nick Valentine is undoubtedly one of the most memorable and unique characters in Fallout4. The synth detective lives in a town where his peers are generally despised, but thanks to the personality of a pre-war detective implanted into his system, Nick has endeared himself to the local population.

Wearing the classic beige trench coat and fedora of a 1940s cosmopolitan, Nick seems to have changed little in the last 200 years. Although he is visibly weathered and some of his inner dispositions are showing beneath the peeling shell of his face, Valentine is a friendly and useful companion.
