Best friends killed in accident with suspected drunk driver

Best friends killed in accident with suspected drunk driver

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – Two best friends in Tennessee were killed by a suspected drunk driver over the weekend.

Natalie White and Holly Wagner died last Saturday night after being involved in an accident with a driver who was apparently under the influence of alcohol.

“This person took our baby away from us,” said Mark White, Natalie White’s father.

Fisk University held a vigil for the two friends on Wednesday afternoon. Both graduated in 2021.

Friends, family and classmates gathered at the Fisk Memorial Chapel to share memories and remember the women.

“She was a ray of sunshine. She was the soul of our house. Always smiling, always happy, always up for a joke,” said Christal White, Natalie White’s mother.

Natalie White was 24 and Holly Wagner was 25 when their lives came to an abrupt end.

“They were best friends. They moved into their apartment together that day and were so excited to be living together as best friends and roommates,” Christal White said.

“You knew they were best friends. They were inseparable,” said Leah Wagner, Holly Wagner’s sister. “When Holly kicked in my door, you knew Natalie was right behind her.”

Two lives were lost, but Cynthia Wagner, Holly Wagner’s mother, finds comfort in the thought that the two were together.

“I know she’s in heaven. I know it and I know Natalie is with her,” Cynthia Wagner said. “She didn’t die alone. They were together and they’re together in heaven.”

The police are continuing their investigation, but many questions remain unanswered for the family.

As families search for answers, they also think about what they will miss most.

“We ended every conversation with ‘I love you,'” said Mark White.

The day Natalie White died was her father’s birthday. He says he spoke to her a few times that day and their last conversation ended like all the conversations before it.

“At least I know the last thing I said to her was ‘I love you,'” he said.
