Discount giant Big Lots has announced plans to close up to 315 stores nationwide as financial problems weigh on the struggling retailer’s future.
According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on July 31, the discount retailer said it could close up to 315 stores as part of an update to its credit terms. That’s more than the 150 stores the company had originally announced two months earlier.

The Columbus, Ohio-based retailer had previously reported a 10% decline in sales in the first quarter ended in June. The company currently operates about 1,389 stores nationwide.
