Big Y hires 100 new employees for new grocery store in Westport

WESTPORT, CT — New England-based supermarket chain Big Y is looking to hire more than 100 employees for its soon-to-open store at 1076 Post Road East in Westport, officials said.

An exact opening date has not yet been announced, but interested candidates can apply in-store from August 26 to October 18, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Open positions include bakery, meat/seafood, deli/in-store kitchen, produce/vegetable/floral, center store, department managers, assistant department managers, cashiers and overnight stock clerks,” officials wrote. Applications are also being accepted on the store’s website.

The company offers flexible shifts and scheduling options, as well as paid vacation and time off, and other benefits. Employee training includes courses on customer service, safety, and food hygiene, among others.

Big Y’s new Westport store is in the space that Amazon Fresh originally wanted to move into, but the online retail giant changed its mind, opening the door for Big Y. A few miles away on the Westport-Norwalk border, Amazon owns a Whole Foods Market.

Big Y is based in Springfield, Massachusetts, operates over 80 stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and employs more than 12,000 people.

“We are committed to fostering growth, not only for our company but also for our employees. Our commitment to providing career opportunities goes hand in hand with our focus on building a strong community,” said Ashley McFarlane, Employment Manager, in a statement. “We believe in putting people first, offering competitive benefits and wages for the well-being of our employees, while creating an environment where everyone can thrive and succeed together.”
