Bills WR Keon Coleman breaks free from the defense and scores his first NFL touchdown

The Buffalo Bills offense was buzzing in the first half of their third week Monday Night Football Clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman entered the game with just over six minutes left in the second period. Quarterback Josh Allen found the big receiver on a crossing pattern; the wideout got away from Jacksonville defender Montaric Brown, caught the ball on the run and danced into the end zone to score his first career touchdown.

The 24-yard touchdown was Coleman’s first pass reception (and target) of the game. It was Allen’s 15th pass completion of the night on just his 19th attempt and his second touchdown of the game. He found sophomore tight end Dalton Kincaid in the back of the end zone in the first quarter on a play where he rolled out to the right and extended what seemed like a dysfunctional play.

Buffalo selected Coleman in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft after revamping its receiver group in the offseason, foregoing regulars Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis and instead relying on a mishmash of skills that Allen could distribute the ball to relatively evenly. The rookie was expected to play a key role in a receiver group that also included players like Kahlil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins. He left in Week 3 after catching four passes for 51 yards in the first two weeks of the season.

It may be Coleman’s first career touchdown, but hopefully it’s just the first of many. Given the early harmony he showed with Allen and the performance the offense played with against Jacksonville, it could be just the first of several tonight.
