Bing & Bao closes in Idylwood to make way for a new noodle restaurant

Bing & Bao closes in Idylwood to make way for a new noodle restaurant

In Idylwood, a local Chinese street food restaurant has closed.

Bing & Bao officially closed its doors at the end of July, ending a four-year stay at the Idylwood Plaza shopping center.

The restaurant, which began serving customers during the coronavirus pandemic, specializes in bing and bao dishes — savory Chinese crepes and steamed dumplings, respectively.

Visitors to the restaurant at 7505 Leesburg Pike are now greeted by a sign announcing its permanent closure after July 31, but giving no reason.

According to the graphics in the window, the Japanese noodle restaurant Kajiken appears to be taking over the storefront.

Kajiken, which launched in Japan in 2010, specializes in abura soba dishes – a type of soupless ramen with homemade thick noodles and other ingredients imported from Japan.

“Through precise seasoning, careful cooking methods and the finest ingredients,” the chain’s website states, “we create an incomparable taste experience that defines our brand.”

The chain opened its first U.S. location in 2022 and currently has five restaurants nationwide, including one in Rockville and Baltimore, Maryland. The company plans to expand rapidly and aims to open more than 100 locations by 2028, according to its website.

The additional locations include one in Lincolnia, where Kajiken is replacing the popular Foxfire Grill in Pinecrest Plaza. The franchise owner told FFXnow in February that it expects to open in six months, but did not immediately respond to a request for an update.
