Binghamton Deli hosts “grand opening” in former Subway store

Binghamton Deli hosts “grand opening” in former Subway store

A vacant building on Binghamton’s south side has been converted into a supermarket and delicatessen.

The Stop N Shop Deli, on the corner of Conklin Avenue and Tompkins Street, is located where a Subway sandwich shop was for several years.

The restaurant suddenly closed in 2021. Zead Ghanem of Johnson City decided the location would be ideal for his grocery store and deli.

Ghanem said the store will be open seven days a week, with the official opening taking place on Thursday.

Ghanem had spent months renovating the building to prepare it for his new business.

Binghamton City Councilman Michael Kosty told WNBF News, “They did a great job with the renovations.”

The place had opened at the end of June before a city law enforcement official ordered its closure.

According to the town hall, there was no building permit for the store. Additional work was required on the building’s electrical system and on a fire extinguishing system.

The site was again inspected by the building control authority and the company was granted an operating license.

Ghanem said he plans to open the deli at 8 a.m. Thursday.
