Body found in Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken

According to the Hudson County District Attorney’s Office, a man was found dead in Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken.

The District Attorney’s Office and Hoboken Police are investigating the circumstances of his death. The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released its findings on the cause and manner of this man’s death.

On Thursday morning, the popular riverside park was cordoned off with barrier tape, preventing access to the sidewalk, benches and playground. The tape was removed shortly before noon.

Sharon Kelly, who works nearby, was among those who went to the scene of the accident to try to better understand what had happened.

“There was yellow tape all over there,” Kelly said. “I kept looking and … there was a white tent. People were just walking by. They stopped and looked. And we’re asking if anyone knows what happened?”

Neighbors said this residential area is normally very quiet and they were shocked to see the police presence.

“(It) surprises me, especially this part of town,” Rick Raspolich said. “It’s a great place, very nice, quiet, especially in the upper part of town compared to downtown. Lots of families. Lots of people walking strollers and dogs. That’s essentially what it is.”

Some neighbors remain on high alert, anxiously waiting to see if it is safe to return to the park.
