Bomb disposal squad called to Beverly police station because of suspicious explosive device

DANVERS, MA — The State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the Beverly Police Department on Friday after a resident dropped off a suspected incendiary device.

Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said the resident brought the device to the station around 4:15 p.m. after finding it while taking out the trash at his home.

“It appears the device is just a training tool, but out of an abundance of caution, Beverly Police have requested assistance from Massachusetts State Police Bomb Disposal, who will work to safely dispose of the device,” LeLacheur said in a statement. “Police are urging anyone who finds a possible incendiary device to call police from their current location and not to bring such devices to the police station.”
