Braves’ Ozzie Albies without a hit after broken wrist

MIAMI – Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies returned from a fractured left wrist on Friday and went hitless in Atlanta’s 4-3 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Albies was activated from the 10-day injured list for the final 10 days of the Braves’ chase for a playoff spot. The switch hitter batted exclusively right-handed and was 0-for-4.

“We know what he can do,” manager Brian Snitker said after the game. “It’s still nice to see him in that lineup, I can tell you that.”

Albies has been sidelined since breaking his left wrist in a loss to St. Louis on July 21. The three-time All-Star injured himself while attempting to catch a throw when Michael Siani stole second base in the ninth inning. Siani slid into Albies as the infielder reached for the ball, bending his hand backward at an awkward angle.

“He brings so much heart and soul to our game and to the team,” Snitker said. “Who he is, how he plays, it’s hard to replace. When you play the game like Ozzie does, you play it right. Having him is just a huge boost for our club.”

Albies, who had a .255 batting average with eight home runs and 46 RBIs before his injury, was second in the Braves’ lineup on Friday, with Michael Harris II as the leadoff hitter. Snitker said that was to bring more speed to the top of the lineup.

“It’s just a good mix with what Ozzie brings anyway,” said Snitker. “And then there are a few guys up there who can run right up there.”

Second baseman Cavan Biggio was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Atlanta is trying to secure a playoff spot without reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr., who suffered a season-ending knee injury on May 26.
