Bristow shop owner says he lost thousands after thieves broke in and stole cigarettes

Bristow shop owner says he lost thousands after thieves broke in and stole cigarettes

The owner of a Bristow supermarket is out nearly $20,000 after thieves smashed his windows, filled two trash cans with cigarettes and stole them.

Investigators believe these are the same two thieves who robbed a store in Pryor last week.

Kenny Cook is the owner of Kenny’s Convenience Store in Bristow. He says a friend sent him our story from Pryor last week and when he saw it, he said, “These are the same people.” He says the thieves brought their own City of Tulsa trash cans and their own garden stones and were gone from the store within minutes.

Surveillance video shows two masked individuals throwing a large rock through the front door of Kenny’s last Friday morning, dragging in two trash cans and stuffing them full of cigarettes.

“Fast. Very fast. They knew what they were doing. It’s obvious they’ve been doing this for a long time,” Cook said.

Cook said the thieves parked behind his store and took the two trash cans out of their car.

He looked at the video from his security camera and tried to count how many boxes the thieves had taken, but lost count at about 175.

He says when a friend sent him our story a few days earlier about a similar lightning strike in Pryor, he knew there was a connection.

“The same action that the man takes when he throws the rock through the door. I mean, it’s all the same. It’s identical. It’s the same two people,” Cook said.

Bristow Police Chief Kendra Raney said that while investigating this burglary, they received calls from other agencies about the same thieves and the potentially suspect vehicle.

“There was a video from Taco Mayo of a gray Jeep, and it was clear on the camera that it was a Jeep. Also, a gray Jeep also hit our flock camera,” Raney said.

Chief Raney says it’s upsetting to see small businesses being hit this way.

“I try to help this community as much as I can, and then when you’re affected by something like this, you still have to be careful about where the money is coming from and what you can do to help. I’m not going to stop helping this community. I love this community,” Cook said.

Cook says that unfortunately there is not much he can do other than accept the loss of $20,000.
