Brockton Eats with Alisha: Summer Restaurants, Nightlife

Brockton Eats with Alisha: Summer Restaurants, Nightlife

BROCKTON — It’s August, which means summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun should stop. In this week’s episode of Brockton Eats with Alisha, we scour Brockton and the surrounding area for great places to visit and delicious restaurants to try before many people’s favorite season comes to an end.

Rather than restaurant reviews, these weekly lists of tidbits and food finds are more than a summary of the essentials. Editor Alisha Saint-Ciel shares tips and advice to help Brockton-area foodies find those delicious hidden gems, old favorites, and exciting new offerings.

We will visit places with great nightlife, cocktail menu and atmosphere. And let’s not forget the places where you can enjoy a delicious brunch and aromatic mimosas.

Dinner with fantastic cocktails

Corfinio – 285 Washington St., North Easton

Immerse yourself in a piece of Italy! Corfinio is an upscale restaurant with a charcoal grill and exceptional dishes. The restaurant offers freshly made Roman pasta to order daily. The owner wants to offer his guests an atmosphere that they “can’t find anywhere else”.

Every day, the chefs make the pasta dough and sauces from scratch. The menu includes all the important proteins: chicken, fish, steak and pork. There’s something for everyone with starters like pasta, pizza, salad and the best for last as dessert.

So bring your friends and grab some wine.

Right on the east side of Brockton, there’s a taste of Cape Verde and Angola, and they serve a lot more than just passion fruit caipirinhas. Stop by and enjoy their delicious creations like chicken natas and, my favorite, churrasco (grilled chicken) with a spicy “verde” sauce and your choice of two sides. There’s always something going on at Luanda throughout the week, like your favorite live sports on the bar TVs or private events in the function rooms, and they even have an all-night Brazilian night every Saturday. There are many reasons to visit, and on special occasions they host either Sunday brunches or shows with live Cape Verdean music. In addition to the food and atmosphere, Luanda always offers something special to the community.

Giana Restaurant — 3 Roosevelt Circle, South Easton

What would dinner be without Giana’s drink samples? The luxurious restaurant offers several drink samples, including the Espresso Martini. Popular drinks include the Pink Flamingo, Reese’s Cup and Heath Bar Martini. Giana’s has its drink menu pretty much nailed, and the food menu is even better. Fan favorites include the Wagyu Burger, Spicy Salmon Maki Bowl and Truffle Pasta.

Tamboo Bistro is the place to go for a nightcap, tasty appetizers and, if you’re hungry, a main course. The restaurant is known for its nightlife and cocktails, but is best known for its traditional Haitian dishes. Some popular dishes include roasted goat with rice and beans and hearty Haitian macaroni and cheese. Tamboo offers dance lessons, music and great drinks to help you start your evening off right.

Let’s head to Broadway and see what Barrels & Boards is cooking up with their fire-roasted 16-ounce Delmonico steak with asparagus, potatoes, and herb steak butter. The restaurant offers a unique ambiance. It’s casual, so wear jeans and bring an appetite! Whether you like seafood, steak, salad, or soup, the restaurant has it all, from stuffed pub chicken to braised short ribs with butternut squash, pizza margarita, chicken marsala, and the New Bedford Stuffy.

Seafood takes up a large portion of the menu, with options like flamed tuna tartare, a raw oyster bar, lobster mac and cheese, whole fried clam bellies and a trio of fried seafood.

Lucca Restaurant – 993 Hingham St., Rockland

Lucca is a mix of casual and fine dining in Rockland. The menu features locally made burrata, roasted seafood dishes, fresh pastas and an extensive wine list. Want to try something new? Try the brown butter braised calamari in a spicy tomato, lemon, basil and spinach sauce and grilled bread.

Quick snacks in the city

Leal’s Kitchen – 707 Warren Ave., Brockton

Leal’s Kitchen is one of Brockton’s hidden gems and has been around for decades. The Cape Verdean and Brazilian restaurant is not a sit-down place, but a place where you grab something to go. All dishes are ready to eat. The selection ranges from grilled salmon to picanha (a special cut of beef), chicken and steak, with sides of rice and beans, vegetables, fried pastel creations in various flavors, desserts and freshly squeezed juice.

This place is perfect if you want to grab a quick bite to eat and then head out for lunch.

Kreyol 17 – 115 Legion Parkway, Brockton

Fast Haitian takeout may seem unheard of, but it’s right here in Brockton, at 17 Kreyol in the heart of Legion Parkway. This Haitian restaurant offers ready-to-eat food for your busy daily routine. The restaurant features popular traditional dishes like roasted goat, fried green plantains, roasted pork, roasted turkey, sautéed wings, white rice, and homemade beverages.

At Sister’s Restaurant in Royal Fuel, you can fill up your car and order a plate of Haitian food at the same time.

You can grab a piping hot bowl of Bouyon (Haitian vegetable soup with meat), Soup Joumou (pumpkin soup), Haitian spaghetti, Lalo with rice and beans, Fritay (various fried foods) and many more ready-to-eat options.

Alves Grocery Store – 274 N Main St., Brockton

Considered a pastel paradise in Brockton, Alves Grocery Store is best known for its deep-fried, airy pastel dishes lightly stuffed with Cape Verdean tuna and sealed with love. A local fixture, the store sells not only hot and prepared foods, but also groceries you won’t find at a typical Shaw’s or Stop and Shop. The menu is extensive and includes all kinds of rice, meats, and beans.
