Brown’s five thoughts on the heavy defeat against the Chiefs

Brown’s five thoughts on the heavy defeat against the Chiefs

Fans get a show, Ravens experience more heartbreak

The Ravens were neck and neck with the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, but the outcome of the game hinged on Isaiah Likely’s toe.

On the final play of the game, the referees initially ruled that Likely had caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Lamar Jackson in the back of the end zone. However, after a replay review, the call was overturned on the field and the touchdown was disallowed.

The Chiefs narrowly won the AFC Championship rematch, but Jackson believed the final play was a touchdown.

“I think it was two feet deep,” Jackson said.

On the previous play, Zay Flowers was completely free in the end zone, but Jackson had already committed to throwing the pass toward Rashod Bateman, and the pass sailed incomplete through the end zone.

The loss reduced Jackson’s career record against the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes to 1-5, but Jackson mocked a reporter afterward, saying the Chiefs were his “kryptonite.”

“You are not my kryptonite,” he said.

Jackson (26 of 41, 273 yards, one touchdown) showed the fighting spirit that has made him a two-time MVP. The Ravens began their final two-minute drive at their own 13-yard line with 1:50 left in the game before storming down the field.

Jackson continued to charge with all his might against Kansas City, rushing for 122 yards on 16 attempts and dancing around potential tacklers to extend plays in the pocket or gain positive yards.

But it wasn’t enough. Baltimore may have to beat Kansas City again in the postseason, but the Ravens were not discouraged despite the loss.

“The whole game gave me courage because I think our guys fought,” Jackson said. “We put everything on the line out there – blood, sweat and tears. To lose to those guys and lose like that? I can’t be mad at my guys. They fought.”
