Buffalo Bills release seven players and place two on the injured list before final cut

The Buffalo Bills have begun making final roster moves ahead of the 2024 NFL season. They have parted ways with seven players and placed two more on the injured list. The players on the injured list cannot return this season unless they are released under an injury agreement.

The Bills released quarterback Anthony Brown, wideout Damiere Byrd, offensive lineman Kevin Jarvis, defensive end Rondell Bothroyd, linebackers Shayne Simon and Deion Jones and cornerback Kyron Brown. Safeties Dee Delaney and Terrell Burgess landed on the injured list.

With quarterback Mitchell Trubisky dealing with a knee injury, Brown was brought in for the final preseason game. He pitched well, completing 11 of 12 passes for 102 yards and leading two touchdown drives. Byrd caught one of his two targeted passes on Saturday, gaining 20 yards.

Despite a series of injuries at the linebacker position, Jones, a second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2016 draft, has failed to make a positive impression this preseason. He has been significantly outperformed by undrafted rookie Joe Andreessen. With Matt Milano expected to be placed on the injured list and considered a returnee in the final roster cut, the race for a spot on the linebacker roster looks much clearer. Andreesen is one of six off-ball linebackers on the current roster, a group that includes Terrel Bernard, Dorian Williams, Baylon Spector, Edefuan Ulofoshio and Nicholas Morrow.

The Bills will have to go through a lot of roster acrobatics in the next 48 hours. Every NFL team must reach the cap with its 53-man roster no later than 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 27.
