Bull flees after 8 rodeo participants escape in Massachusetts

Officials in southern Massachusetts were searching for an escaped bull early Monday after a herd of the animals jumped a fence at a rodeo event the day before.

“Community members should exercise extreme caution and not approach the bull if it is found. If they find it, community members should call 9-1-1,” North Attleboro Fire Chief Christopher Coleman said in a statement.

Dramatic video captured by a bystander shows the moment eight bulls escaped by jumping over a perimeter fence at the one-day event at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro.

According to Coleman, the animals escaped from their enclosures, ran across the parking lot and jumped over the fence before fleeing south toward a nearby forest.

One bull was caught shortly after the escape and six others were corralled about three miles away by local police and firefighters along with environmental officers, rodeo workers and staff from the New England Rodeo in nearby Norton, Coleman said.

No injuries were reported, but the rodeo, which took place at a shopping mall, is under investigation, he added.

The search for the remaining bull continues.

Attleboro resident Chris Mooney saw the cops running down his street and through his yard.

“When I went out and looked out, I immediately thought, those aren’t horses, those are bulls, oh my God,” he told NBC Boston. “Two of them were laying there, another one was trying to get off the fence and the others were just sitting there.”
