Burglary at a Washington County apartment, suspect arrested after chase

One person was arrested following a home invasion and police chase early Saturday morning, August 17, 2024, in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 2:02 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in progress in the City of Addison.

The homeowner stated that an intruder entered her home and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, a deputy observed a vehicle with Illinois plates traveling south on State Highway 175 at 90 miles per hour. Deputies pursued the vehicle, with Slinger Police successfully setting up spike barriers in the village.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of State Highway 175 and Pioneer Road, where the driver, a 41-year-old Chicago man, surrendered to authorities without further incident.

Evidence from the scene, including video footage from Ring, confirmed the suspect as the person who illegally entered the home.

The perpetrator gained access by breaking and smashing a side window next to the entrance door.

Although nothing of significant value was stolen, items that appeared to have come from the house were found on the suspect.

The suspect, who is unknown to the homeowner and has no ties to Washington County, was arrested and is currently being held on burglary charges.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident.
