The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a flash flood warning for the areas affected by the wildfire. As of Friday morning, the fire has burned more than 423,000 acres and continues to advance with 63% containment. The cause of the fire has been determined to be arson, according to CAL Fire.

“Residents near the Park Fire burn scar should prepare for possible flooding,” the weather office warned.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, which may cause debris flows of rock, mud, vegetation and loose material. Residents in the area should be prepared to evacuate if instructed to do so by local authorities.

On July 24, the Park Fire broke out near Bidwell Municipal Park east of Chico and spread quickly with extreme fire development.

The fire has now spread deeper into Lassen National Forest and onto private, state and other federal lands. Based on area burned, the fire has climbed to the fourth largest wildfire in California history and is moving closer to third.

According to CAL Fire, more than 630 buildings, including homes and businesses, were destroyed by the fire, and nearly 50 others were damaged.
