Burnett Dairy Store makes Duluth cheesier

Wisconsin-based Burnett Dairy has opened a store in Duluth. Burnett Dairy is farmer-owned.

Cheese lovers in Duluth can now enjoy their favorite dairy products. The Burnett Dairy Cooperative has opened a store at the base of Spirit Mountain, right next to the Ski Hut Adventure Center.

The Wisconsin-based company is known for its award-winning cheeses. Jame Swan, vice president of retail operations, told The Lift, “People in Grantsburg know our cheese, but people who are new to our company are excited to see all the cheeses we have in our store.”

Master cheesemaker Bruce Willis says making a good cheese starts with quality milk. He has been making cheese for 48 years. The Burnett Dairy Cooperative is farmer-owned. In 2008, Bruce made one of the co-op’s most popular cheeses: the Wood River Creamery Cheddar Gruyere.

Cheese is the store’s main offering, but you can also buy ice cream. There is also a full bistro where guests can enjoy pizza and other snacks.

The store is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
