Burning Blue Design expands to Canada with high-precision Squamish Airport backdrop for MSFS

Burning Blue Design has unveiled its latest project, and this time it is a little different from the developer’s usual offerings. The new version is a beautiful rendition of Squamish Municipal Airport (CYSE) in CanadaThis marks the prolific developer’s first foray into Canadian airspace, departing from his usual focus on UK airports.

Located halfway between Vancouver and Whistler on the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway, Squamish Municipal Airport – Don Patrick Field offers a unique blend of coastal and mountain scenery. The airport’s strategic location, where the majestic Coast Mountains meet the mouth of Howe Sound, promises a visual delight for MSFS simmers and a perfect starting point for virtual backcountry flight adventures.

Originally established in the 1960s to support local and recreational aviation, Squamish Municipal has grown into a major general aviation hub on Canada’s west coast. The airport is now home to four dynamic aviation operators, each offering a distinct range of services.

Burning Blue Design’s landscapes have always been known for their authenticity and welcoming atmosphere, and the Squamish Airport seems to be no exception. The development team conducted an on-site visit to ensure the highest accuracy in the digital implementation. The result is a rich in features Representation of the airport in 2024:

  • Over 90 custom 3D objects, each with full PBR textures
  • Fully customized night lighting that captures the atmosphere of the airport after dark.
  • Animated hangar doors that close at night
  • A tailor-made windsock model
  • Animated spectators who populate the airport during the day and leave at nightfall

One of the outstanding features of this landscape is the Inclusion of real aircraft based at Squamish Municipal Airport. Simmers will recognise familiar sights such as Glacier Air’s Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibious and Sea To Sky Air’s Cessna 172M Skyhawks. The developer has also faithfully recreated helicopters from Blackcomb Helicopters and Black Tusk Helicopter, including the Airbus H135 and Bell 206B JetRanger II.

Beyond the immediate airport environment, Burning Blue Design Improvement of the 15 square kilometers of surrounding forestscreating a seamless transition between the airport and the beautiful British Columbia landscape. High-resolution, color-corrected ground textures from Bing Maps have been carefully edited to ensure consistency and realism.
