Bus crashes into West End house of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”

A city bus crashed into London’s Palace Theatre, home of the West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Childthis afternoon, according to a report on British news site Metro.

No injuries were reported, but police cordoned off the accident site on Shaftesbury Avenue, near Leicester Square, as a possible crime scene and investigated the accident into the afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1pm London time.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Metro that when officers arrived at the scene, they “found a bus that had mounted the kerb and collided with a building. No one was injured in this incident. The scene remains intact and investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.”

Photos from the crash site show damage to the side of the famous theater, including what appears to be a partially collapsed side awning. See photos below.

The two-part West End play runs Wednesday to Sunday; the production’s website showed last-minute tickets available for this Wednesday.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by Thorne, JK Rowling and John Tiffany. The play has been performed in London since 2016 and at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway since 2018.
