Bushfire leads to emergency shelters and evacuation orders in East County

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — A wildfire threatened buildings in eastern San Diego County Monday afternoon, prompting evacuations and curfews.

The blaze, dubbed the Anita Fire, broke out near Millar Ranch Road and Millar Anita Lane in Spring Valley, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

Emergency crews are battling the 1.2-hectare fire from the air and from the ground. Cal Fire said there was an immediate threat to the buildings.

Authorities issued evacuation orders and curfew orders. (See map here.)

“Everyone in the affected area must evacuate and seek shelter,” said a message from Alert San Diego. “Go indoors immediately. Close and lock all doors and windows. Remain indoors and remain in your seat until further instructions.”
